Where to go with your dog

Puntone, Solmine canal mouth

Scarlino · about 2 km from the apartment

The only stretch of the Scarlino coast where dogs can go in the water. Swimming is always banned here for people.

Follonica centre · about 11 min by car

120 metres of beach north of the Pietraia stream, from the northern groyne. Free access and swimming for all dogs.

Some beach clubs welcome dogs with dedicated services, such as Mamai Beach. Ask them directly about terms and space.

The rules, town by town

Follonica

From 28 May to 20 September 2026 dogs may not be on the public beach from 9 am to 7 pm.
Before 9 am and after 7 pm they may go on the beach, with a leash and muzzle.
At the two Bau Beaches they can stay and swim at any time.
Guide dogs, police dogs and rescue dog teams are exempt.

Scarlino

Dogs are allowed on all public beaches, on a leash.
You must carry a muzzle and poop bags.
In the water only north and south of the Solmine canal mouth.
Cala Violina and Cala Civette: dogs banned 1 June to 30 September. On the Costiere trails, leash only.

Where can my dog swim in Follonica?

At the two Bau Beaches, north of the Pietraia stream and north of the Fosso Cervia, at any time.

When can my dog go on Follonica's public beach?

Before 9 am and after 7 pm, with a leash and muzzle. The rules apply from 28 May to 20 September 2026.

Where can my dog swim in Scarlino?

Only near the Solmine canal mouth at Puntone. On other public beaches your dog can stay on a leash but not go in the water.

How much are the fines?

In Follonica €100 to €1,000 for banned access or no leash and muzzle, €80 to €480 for not picking up after your dog.
